3 Ways to Achieve A Voluminous Wash & Go For Natural Hair
Okay, let’s talk about it—big hair. Who doesn’t love a full, bouncy, voluminous wash and go? If you’re like me, you love the look of curls that are popping and full of life. But sometimes, achieving that fluffy volume we crave can be tricky, right? I’ve got you covered! These 3 simple tips will help you pump up the volume on your wash and go and give you that big, bold hair you’ve always wanted.
1. Add A Foam To Your Styling Cocktail
So, what’s a "styling cocktail"? It’s basically when you layer your products to get the best results! And one of my favorite ways to amp up my wash and go volume is by adding a foam (like the Aloe & Silk Styling Mousse from Koshajay Essentials) to the styling cocktail.
Foam is perfect for volume because it expands the hair and breaks up curl clumps, giving you that extra lift. When you apply a foam after your base gel, it creates the perfect soft hold and helps your curls escape the clump, allowing them to pop with volume.
When I get my wash and go’s done at the salon, they always add mousse to my curls, and trust me—my hair is never flat on day one. If you’re ready to try this for yourself, head to KoshajayEssentials.com to check out our Aloe & Silk Styling Mousse.
2. Utilize A Diffuser Over A Hood Dryer
Let’s be real: a hood dryer is great, but if you want serious volume, a diffuser is where it’s at. If you don’t already have one, you can grab a diffuser attachment for your blow dryer and thank me later!
Why does a diffuser work so well? It helps to diffuse the airflow from the dryer, preventing it from blowing your curls flat. The diffused air gets spread over a larger surface area, allowing your curls to dry without losing their shape.
When I’m diffusing, I like to hold the diffuser downward and move it slowly through my hair. This helps to lift the roots and get more volume, which is what we all want from our wash and go. The best part? It’s a lot quicker and more targeted than using a hood dryer, so you get expansion exactly where you want it.
3. Pick Your Roots
Don’t be afraid to grab a pick and gently lift your roots! After your wash and go is dry, take a wide-tooth comb or a pick and gently lift the roots of your curls. This simple step adds tons of volume by creating space between the curls, which gives the illusion of fuller, thicker hair.
But don’t go overboard! You want to be gentle with this process so you don’t disturb your curl definition. A little goes a long way!
Final Thoughts:
So, if you’re ready to turn your wash and go into a full-on, voluminous masterpiece, give these tips a try! Layering products with foam, switching to a diffuser, and picking your roots will give you the big, bouncy curls you’ve been dreaming of.
